Call Arnold
While I am really very emotionally happy about the California legislature passing AB0849 (“Gender-neutral marriage” bill), I cannot help but remember that the voters of this state have already spoken on this issue and they overwhelmingly said “NO” to gay marriage with Prop. 22.
That being said, I hate the proposition system in this state. I have even advocated getting rid of it. The typical voter is uninformed and ill equipped to make a decision based on anything else except raw emotion.
We are a Republic and if you don’t like what your elected officials do, you vote them out of office.
Support the bill.

The ballot proposition is a two-edged sword. It allows the state to have laws reflecting the values of a majority of its people. At the same time, it’s highly vulnerable to mob-rule, deception, and mass hysteria. These disadvantages were so great that our founding fathers ruled out the idea of a popularly-elected president (only to be overruled in the Era of Good Feelings.)
Perhaps Arnold is simply using the “will of the people” as a shield to avoid making an unpopular decision. It’s more likely that he’s simply listening to the mob.
I agree. If Prop. 22 weren’t around, I believe he would have signed it. He will have the chance to prove that soon enough. Prop. 22 is likely going to be overturned by the courts as unconstitutional.
